Super Juice - Pulp Fiction

Picture 1The United States is at this super juice craze with good tasting wild berries from exotic lands with claims with high anti-oxidant values.  A part of a healthy LifeStyle Living is making sure we know what to look for when buying wellness products.  MSN recently wrote an article on MSN.com Health & Fitness entitled Pulp Fiction.  The article explains what is really going on with all these super juices.  The sad part is that the anti-oxidants levels that they post are completely meaningless when it comes to a human being actually drinking the juice.

This is what happens, juice companies uses an anti-oxidant test called ORAC FL and this is a chemical test tube test and they put a florescent dye and measure the florescent units to get high large ORAC values.  However, the problem is, a human being is a living organism.  The only way to know if your anti-oxidant product works is if they  use an anti-oxidant test using Serum ORAC (serum meaning the blood).  Only in the blood is that you will really know if your anti-oxidant truly works or not.

Here is an excerpt from that MSN article:  " But the dirty secret of ORAC testing is that with less principled companies, there's no guarantee.  They could easily submit a hight-quality sample of the ripest, freshest fruit for testing and then trumpet the resulting high ORAC score knowing that the product it sold would probably be far less potent.  Manufacturers can also test their product dozens and even hundreds of times, simply cherry-picking the highest ORAC score and concealing the less favorable results."

So, they test the high quality fruit, not their product.  Welches juices are actually a lot better than some of these Super Juices and Welches doesn't really have much in there either.  We simply need to be smart consumers today!  If you have the time, read the entire article.  LifeStyle Living is about being happy, healthy, wealthy and WISE!  Look for Serum ORAC tested and clinically proven anti-oxidants.  They are out there.
