Why We Need Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are nutrients called Phytonutrients that protect our bodies from oxidative stress (free radical damage).  Oxidative stress is the process that damages our tissues, our cells, and even our DNA.  This kind of damage is sort of like the rusting or the oxidation of metals.  So free radical damage rusts our cells...  So this type of damage causes us to age faster than we need to.  Breathing our toxic air also causes oxidative stress; we can't escape it.  On top of that our bodies are less able to cope with this type of stress as we grow older.

Look, we are all going to die at one point sooner or later.  But at least as we grow older, we can still have a great quality of life and to truly be as healthy as we can be.  To be Well!

Have you ever met a really health conscious old person that looks young even though he's like 60 or 70 years old?  I have!  They all do their natural juicing, exercise, wheat germ, wheat grass, aloe, you name it.  They do spend a whole lot of time eating the fruits just to keep their health.  The cost to be this healthy is very high as well, but they do not care.  Because they treat their bodies with the best things that money can buy.

So, let's list some Antioxidant Nutrients in some foods.

  • Citrus Fruits - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, copper, zinc, selenium
  •
  • Kiwi - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, copper, zinc
  •
  • Broccoli - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, quercetin, vitamin E, zinc, manganese, copper, glutathione, selenium
  •
  • Parsley - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, vitamin E, manganese, copper, zinc, selenium, glutathione
  •
  • Guava - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, zinc, selenium
  •
  • Green Pepper - Vitamin C, flavonoids, carotenoids, manganese, copper, zinc, selenium, glutathione
  •
  • Australian Bush Plum - Vitamin C, flavonoids, copper

There are many fruits and veggies that have antioxidants, I just wanted to list some.  The Australian Bush Plum is not an everyday fruit, however, it was found to have high levels of Antioxidants in it.

So, if you don't eat ample fruits and veggies, then  you have to supplement with an Antioxidant Supplement.  This typically comes from a capsule form.  The super juices is known to be not so super.  Google Pulp Fiction by MSN, it's a cool article.  You have to do some research in choosing an antioxidant supplement so that it does indeed provide you with antioxidant power.  It's known that some products although they claim to have antioxidants actually cause oxidative stress as much as smoking a pack of cigarettes.  It's an unregulated industry folks, what can you expect?  So do  your research!

Go all-natural why don't you! You'll end up feeling great and looking great too!  Cheers!
